Customs officers from DG Customs Intelligence and Investigation and border police officers from DG Border Police found contraband mobile phones during a joint inspection at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint. The phones were hidden in a Volkswagen Passat car driven by a Bulgarian citizen leaving Bulgaria for Turkey on October 20, 2020, around 11 o’clock. The vehicle was selected for inspection, during which 145 Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 mobile phones were found in cavities around the engine. The driver tried to cover up the smuggled goods with a market value of BGN 50,000 through additional rubber connections. Pre-trial proceedings were instituted in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office.
