Prosecutor Doychev announced that the narcotic substance was found in a car with Belgian registration, which was checked on a route for outgoing cars from the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Turkey. The driver of the car was brought to criminal responsibility, against whom a request for taking a measure of restraint “detention in custody” will be submitted today (18.12.2020). The total value of the seized narcotic substance amounts to over BGN 2 million at court prices. Prosecutor Doychev added that Marian S. was convicted in 2018, when he was sentenced for driving a car under the influence of drugs.
The car was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which the customs officers found an additionally installed metal cover over a factory cavity in the trunk, intended for the spare tire. After removing the lid, a total of 22 packages were found in the adapted cache, taped. During the on-site field drug test, the contents of the packages reacted to cocaine, Svetoslav Vladimirov of the Customs Agency told the media. For this crime, the accused can receive a sentence of 15 to 20 years “imprisonment”. The law also provides for a fine in the amount of BGN 200 to 300 thousand.
