Undeclared currency for nearly BGN 100,000 in pockets of clothes was discovered by the customs officers of Malko Tarnovo

Customs officers from the General Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation / DG MRR / and the Territorial Directorate of the South Sea found an undeclared 50,000 euros during a customs inspection of the Malko Tarnovo Ministry of Interior on a car entering the country.

The car with Turkish registration arrived at the Malko Tarnovo Customs Checkpoint on February 9, 2021, around 3:00 PM, on an entry route from Turkey, driven by a Turkish citizen with initials T.K. He traveled alone. He stated in the customs control zone that there was nothing to declare. During the customs inspection, the customs officers found several bundles of currency in the inside pockets of a suit hanging on a hanger with a case, as well as in the inside pockets of a jacket placed on the back seat of the car. After listing in the presence of the driver, it was found that the currency transferred in separate bundles with an elastic band was a total of 50,000 euros. The driver subsequently gave contradictory explanations that he was engaged in commercial activity in Bulgaria, he did not present any document on the origin of the currency.

The undeclared currency with a BGN equivalent of BGN 97,791.50 was seized. Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted in the case, which is being conducted by an investigating customs inspector from the General Directorate of the Ministry of Regional Development under the supervision of the Burgas District Prosecutor’s Office.
