More than 500,000 pieces of contraband cigarettes were found by the customs officers of Kapitan Andreevo

Customs officers from the Territorial Directorate of Burgas Customs found a large amount of contraband cigarettes hidden in wooden panels during an inspection of a truck entering the country from Turkey.

On September 27, 2021, at about 8:50 pm, a tractor with a semi-trailer with Turkish registration arrived at the Kapitan Andreevo Police Station. His compatriot also traveled in the vehicle driven by a Turkish citizen as a second driver. They present to customs officials documents for the transported cargo – packaging foil and three pallets with wooden panels from Turkey to Great Britain. According to the “risk analysis” method, the truck is directed for X-ray scanning, in which suspicious areas with high density are marked in the load. During the subsequent physical control, the inspectors found 25,480 boxes / 509,600 pieces / of Marlboro and Parliament cigarettes without excise labels hidden in the legally described goods – wooden wall panels. According to the expertise of the expert, the seized contraband goods amount to a total of BGN 154,059.

Pre-trial proceedings were instituted in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office.

From the beginning of September until now, during customs inspections of the Ministry of Justice Kapitan Andreevo, nearly 70,000 boxes / 1,400,000 pieces / of illegal cigarettes have been detained.
