Customs officers found nearly 14.7 kg. heroin in hiding in a car during a check in the Danube Bridge area 2

During an inspection of a car with Bulgarian registration at the Danube Bridge – Vidin border checkpoint, customs officers found 14,685 kg. heroin.

At around 7.30 pm on January 9, 2022, in the area of ​​the Danube Bridge-Vidin border checkpoint, customs inspectors stopped a car, Citroen, traveling from Bulgaria to Germany, for inspection. The driver stated that he was not transporting goods prohibited by law.
During the physical control of the TIR terminal in Vidin, specially constructed hiding places were found in the floor of the car. They were accessed through two openings under the front seats. After their dismantling, 29 packages wrapped in beige tape were found in the right structure under a towel and fragrances covered with tiles.
The powdered substance contained in them reacted positively to heroin during a field drug test. The total weight of the packages is 14,685.05 grams.
An additional inspection revealed that the caches were lined with lead on the outside in order to complicate X-ray inspection.
Under the direction of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Vidin, an investigation is underway into pre-trial proceedings for a crime under Art. 242, para. 2 of the Penal Code.
The driver of the vehicle, 46-year-old IP, was brought in as a defendant. By a decree of a prosecutor in the District Prosecutor’s Office – Vidin, he was detained for up to 72 hours. The act committed by him is a serious intentional crime with a high degree of public danger, for which the law provides for a penalty of “imprisonment” of 10 to 15 years and a fine of 100,000 to 200,000 levs.
The District Prosecutor’s Office – Vidin is about to submit to the court a request for taking a measure of restraint “detention in custody” against the accused IP.
