Customs officers found more than 1.4kg of smuggled gold jewelry in the cab of a truck

Customs officers found 1,412 kg of smuggled gold jewelry in the cab of a truck.

The truck with Romanian registration arrived at the Lesovo Customs Checkpoint on January 19, 2022, at about 3 o’clock after midnight on a route for incoming trucks, driven by a Turkish citizen. According to the submitted documents, he transported furniture and other goods from Turkey to Romania via Bulgaria.

The tractor with a semi-trailer was selected by a team of a customs mobile group for a thorough customs inspection, during which customs officers found 4 packages wrapped in black tape in the driver’s cab. The packages were hidden in a factory cavity under a refrigerator placed under the bed in the driver’s cab. It was found that they contain a total of 1,412.71 grams of yellow metal jewelry – bracelets, medallions, earrings, rings and other jewelry. According to the expertise of the expert, the products are made of 14 carats of gold (sample 585) and have a total value of BGN 115,842.

The smuggled gold jewelry was seized. Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted in the case by an investigating customs inspector from the Territorial Directorate of Burgas Customs, which is being conducted under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor’s Office.
