Customs officers found 100 kg of hookah tobacco and contraband cigarettes in the cab of a truck

Customs officers from the Burgas Regional Directorate of Customs found smuggled 100 kg of hookah tobacco in factory packaging and 5,600 (280 boxes) of cigarettes in the cab of a truck.

The vehicle with Turkish registration arrived at the Lesovo Customs Checkpoint on March 14, 2022, around 11 pm, on an entry route from Turkey. According to the submitted documents, the truck was transporting bicycles from Turkey to Finland. The driver, a Turkish citizen, said there was nothing else to declare. The truck was selected for a thorough customs inspection by employees of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department at the Burgas Customs TD.

During the inspection the customs officers established that the goods in the cargo space correspond to the declared one. However, in the course of the control actions, undeclared 100 factory packages of 1 kg of hookah tobacco with Al FAKHER inscriptions and 5,600 (280 boxes) of cigarettes from various brands with foreign excise labels were found in the driver’s cab, cabinets and personal luggage. . 12.5 kg of honeycombs and 8.5 kg of meat products were found and hidden in various places in the driver’s cab.

The smuggled excise goods were seized and an act was drawn up against the driver of the truck, a Turkish citizen with initials M.Y., for the established violation of the Customs Act. The illegally transported food products were also seized with a report and handed over to the employees of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA).
