Customs officers found gold jewelry worth nearly BGN 670,000 in a hiding place on a bus

Customs officers from the Territorial Directorate of Burgas Customs found 7279.40 grams of gold jewelry during a bus inspection.

The vehicle with Turkish registration arrives at MP Kapitan Andreevo on 11.05.2022 on the way from Turkey to Bulgaria. In the customs control zone, the driver and the 27 passengers stated that they did not import goods, currency or cash for declaration. The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which a specially built cache was found behind the batteries. 22 packages of yellow metal jewelry were taken out of the shelter. The expertise performed by an expert established that the packages contained 7279.40 grams of 14-carat gold items – sample 585. 1702 gold jewelry – rings, bracelets, earrings, medallions, chains and necklaces worth BGN 669,704 were seized.

Pre-trial proceedings were instituted in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office. The smuggled gold jewelry was seized.

The driver – a Turkish citizen, with initials AY, at the age of 60 was prosecuted and imposed a bail of BGN 3,000 and a ban on leaving the country, except with the permission of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Haskovo.
