Customs officers found nearly 7kg of undeclared gold

An attempt to smuggle nearly 7kg of gold bars was prevented by customs officials.

On 25.06.2022 A freight minibus with a foreign registration, driven by a Turkish citizen, transporting groupage goods from Austria via Bulgaria to Turkey, arrives at the Kapitan Andreevo Police Station. During a personal examination of the driver, in a bag around his waist, 4 packages were found, wrapped in duct tape containing 80 ingots (strips) of yellow metal. According to the expertise made by the expert, the ingots with a total weight of 6,998 grams are made of 24-carat gold worth BGN 759,283.

The illegally transported gold and the driver were detained. A fast-track procedure was initiated by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office – Svilengrad.
