1.8 kg of contraband gold ornaments were detained by the customs officials of the Kapitan Andreevo police station

Another attempt to illegally transfer gold jewelry was prevented by the customs officials of the Kapitan Andreevo police station.
On 02.08.2022, a car brand “Volkswagen Sharan” with Bulgarian registration arrived at the checkpoint on its way from Turkey to Bulgaria. The driver and the five passengers – Bulgarian citizens state that they are not carrying goods for declaration. The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which 24 polyethylene bags containing yellow metal articles were found in a factory cavity in front of the passenger seat. During a personal examination of the driver, 3 transparent envelopes also containing yellow metal items were found in his underwear.
According to the expertise carried out by the expert, the jewelry found has a total weight of 1,838.20 grams and a value of BGN 165,438.
In this case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigative customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office.

Regarding the driver with initials S.V. a measure of remand has been taken, as well as a ban on leaving the country, except with the permission of the supervising prosecutor.

Just a few days ago, nearly 3 kg of gold and silver ornaments were found hidden in a specially built cache of a bus. From the beginning of the year to the present, the customs officers of MP Kapitan Andreevo have detained nearly 83 kg of precious metal products.
