Customs officers seized nearly 44,000 pieces of contraband cigarettes during three inspections of vehicles entering the country from Turkey.
On June 25, 2022, at around 8:40 pm, a truck with Turkish registration arrived at the Kapitan Andreevo Police Station. The driver, a Turkish citizen, presented regular documents for the transported goods – furniture from Turkey to Belgium. The car was selected for X-ray control, in which suspicious areas with high density were marked. During the subsequent physical control in factory cavities in several places in the tractor were found 1097 boxes (21 940 pieces) of cigarettes of different brands without Bulgarian excise excise.
A day earlier, on June 24, 2022, shortly before midnight, another truck arrived at the checkpoint, transporting goods from Turkey to France. In the mattress of the bed for rest in the driver’s cab, the customs officers found 720 boxes (14,400 pieces) of cigarettes. On the same morning, at about 8 o’clock, 380 boxes (7600 pieces) of excise cigarettes were found, hidden in the spoiler above the driver’s cab. The truck was traveling from Turkey to Germany.
The tobacco products found were without a Bulgarian excise label and were seized. For the established administrative violations of the three drivers – Turkish citizens, acts have been drawn up for an attempt to transport excise goods across the state border without the knowledge and permission of the customs authorities.
