Measures to speed up the processing of trucks negotiated by Bulgarian, Turkish customs and border authorities

Measures to be taken by both Bulgarian and Turkish sides to maximize the throughput of the border crossing points Kapitan Andreevo – Kapukule and Lesovo – Hamzabeili without departing from the level of border and customs control – this was agreed today, 26.09 .2019, at a joint meeting at the Turkish Kapukule Point, the Bulgarian and Turkish border and customs authorities. The meeting was about the extremely intense traffic and the accumulation of trucks over the last week. From the Bulgarian side the meeting was attended by Georgi Kostov – Director of the Customs Agency, Chief Commissioner Svetlan Kichikov – Director of the Directorate of Border Police, Boyka Gasheva – Director of the Southern Maritime Directorate and Tihomir Georgiev, Deputy Director of the Southern Maritime Directorate Customs Agency, Marin Ivanov – Head of the State Customs and Trade Administration – Svilengrad and Emil Gochev – Head of the border checkpoint Kapitan Andreevo, and from the Turkish side – Yashar Ojak – Director of the Regional Directorate of Customs and Trade for the Thrace region, and Halil Güzemer – Director of the and heavy traffic at the Kapukule border post.
Constructively and in business, the border and customs authorities of the two countries discussed in detail the objective circumstances and specifics that lead to the formation of truck columns at the points of departure. Emergency measures were identified and the two parties were committed to processing at maximum speed.
Double the freight traffic this year compared to 2015 and a 20% increase over 2018, said Director of the Customs Agency Georgi Kostov, who stressed that the agreements reached at previous bilateral meetings have already been reached.
There is good coordination between the Bulgarian and Turkish border authorities, stressed during the meeting Chief Commissioner Svetlan Kichikov.
The Bulgarian and Turkish sides agreed that on the basis of the agreements at the meeting, maximum efforts will be made by all control authorities on both sides of the border, which will lead to overcoming the current situation.
