74 kg. hookah tobacco was detained by customs officers in Sofia

During a joint action of the Customs Agency and the Economic Police Sector at the 07th Regional Police Department – Sofia of the Ministry of Interior, a channel for distribution of hookah tobacco on the territory of the country without a valid Bulgarian excise label was opened.
On March 30, 2020, officers of the General Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and the Economic Police Sector inspected a shipment in the office of a courier company. Within the control actions, 39 packages of 1 kg are found in a carton. hookah tobacco without excise label. The goods on the bill of lading are described as coal.
Pre-trial proceedings were instituted in the case according to the inventory of the General Directorate of the Ministry of Regional Development under the supervision of the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office.
In the course of the investigation, a search was carried out in a private home in the city of Sofia, where another 35 packages of 1 kg were found. hookah tobacco without a valid Bulgarian excise label.
As part of the investigation, the security department of the courier company provided assistance as part of the operational interaction between the customs administration and the economic operators to counteract the illegal distribution of excise goods.
In the case, persons related to the committed crime have been identified.
