Customs officers seized 3,898 kg of drugs in a truck with croissants

Under the direction of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Kyustendil an investigation is underway for a crime under Art. 242, para. 2 of the Penal Code – illegal transportation across the border of the country of narcotic substances and / or their analogues.

At around 8.15 pm on July 18, 2021, at the Gueshevo Customs Checkpoint, a Mercedes truck traveling from Bulgaria to Kosovo, transporting croissants, was stopped for inspection. In the cab of the vehicle, the customs inspectors from the Department for Combating Drug Trafficking – Southwest found boxes with solar lamps, in which were hidden 4 glass jars containing pink-beige tablets. A package taped to one of the boxes was also found. The plastic bag contained a white powder and another pressed package with the same substance.

In the field drug tests, the substances reacted positively to amphetamine. Their total weight is 3,898 kg.

By a decree of an investigative body, the driver of the truck D.K. (56 years old).

The criminal act committed by him is a serious intentional crime. For drug smuggling, the law provides for a penalty of “imprisonment” for a term of 10 to 15 years and a fine of 100,000 to 200,000 levs.

Today, July 20, 2021, the Kyustendil District Prosecutor’s Office will submit a request to the court to take a permanent measure of restraint “detention in custody” in respect of the accused.
