On August 17, 2021, a meeting was held at the Central Customs Administration between the Director of the Customs Agency, Mr. Pavel Tonev, and Mr. Nicholas Meldem, Attaché for Customs Affairs at the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation in Bulgaria.
The two customs administrations aim to deepen and accelerate the exchange of information in the framework of international cooperation, it became clear during the meeting, at which the parties presented the priorities in their work. A joint project for training in the field of currency violations is under development.
It was also noted that there is a very good level of administrative cooperation between the customs authorities regarding the procedures for proving the origin of goods on the basis of an agreement between the EU and Switzerland.
Even the difficult conditions set by the Kovid pandemic have not prevented good communication, Mr Meldem said.
For his part, the Director of the Customs Agency, Mr. Pavel Tonev, highlighted his excellent impressions of the interaction with the Swiss Customs, including within the World Customs Organization.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Directors of the Customs Agency – Mr. Lachezar Krastev, Mr. Rumen Danev and Mr. Pavel Gerenski.
