Territorial Directorate of Burgas Customs announced a public sale through a tender with secret bidding for 43,920 textile products seized in favor of the state. The sale is carried out in accordance with the Tax and Social Security Procedure Code. More than 25,000 dresses, shorts, shirts, men’s and women’s underwear, socks have been put up for auction. The sale also includes over 18,000 children’s clothes – baby sets for newborns, dresses, socks, underwear, T-shirts, pants.
The textiles were seized in an attempt to be smuggled in on June 11, 2020, when a truck with a foreign registration entered the country from Turkey through the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint. The driver with dual citizenship – Moldovan and Romanian, presents to customs officials documents for the transported goods – fabrics, home textiles, metal tables and chairs for Belarus. The truck was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which 168 packages with over 43,000 undeclared textile items were found.
The goods are offered for sale in seven groups and a deposit of 20% of the initial auction price is paid for participation. The winning buyer pays the due duties and VAT, as the goods have a non-union customs status and are released after customs clearance.
