Customs officers found over 7.5 kg of smuggled gold and silver jewelry during two inspections – on a bus and a truck.
On 13.02.2022 A tractor with a semi-trailer with Turkish registration and two drivers – a Turkish citizen – arrived at Kapitan Andreevo. The vehicle has been selected for a thorough customs inspection, which did not reveal any violations. During a personal examination of the drivers, 5 packages containing rings, bracelets, earrings, yellow and white metal necklaces were found under the shirt of one of them. The expertise made by the expert established that the jewelry with a total weight of 1010.83 grams was made of 14, 18, 22-carat gold worth BGN 103,805.
A large amount of contraband gold and silver jewelry was also found on February 14, 2022, when a bus with Romanian registration arrived at the checkpoint on its way from Turkey to Romania, carrying 20 passengers. Customs officers select the vehicle for a thorough inspection. During the personal examination of one of the passengers – a Romanian citizen, were found in the handbag, underwear and attached to the body packages containing a large number of yellow and white metal products. According to the expertise of the expert, the found products are made of 14-carat gold with a total weight of 2015.10 grams worth BGN 169,268, and the 925 products are silver with a total weight of 4,516 grams worth BGN 31,612.
The seized gold and silver jewelry in both cases amounted to a total of 7541.93 grams with a total value of BGN 304,685.
Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted in the cases by investigating customs inspectors under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office.
By a decree of prosecutors from the District Prosecutor’s Office – Haskovo, the violators were charged under Art. 242 of the Penal Code.
