Customs officials found undeclared currency with the equivalent of BGN 617,279 during an inspection of a truck leaving the country.
On 07/06/2022, a tractor with a semi-trailer with Turkish registration, traveling from the Netherlands to Iraq, arrived at MP Kapitan Andreevo. Using the “risk analysis” method, the truck was selected for a thorough customs inspection, including an X-ray, where unusual densities around the driver’s cab were noted. During the subsequent physical control, 31 packages containing euro banknotes of different denominations were found in the air duct of the tractor. The total amount of the discovered undeclared currency is 315,610 euros with the BGN equivalent of 617,279 BGN.
In this case, a fast-track procedure was initiated by an investigative customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office Haskovo – Territorial Department – Svilengrad.
The leader – Yu.Ya. aged 45, a Turkish citizen, was brought in as a defendant for not having fulfilled his obligation to declare in writing to the customs authorities the currency transferred across the border, which is an external border for the European Union, and the value is particularly large. The crime is classified under Article 251, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
