Customs officials found undeclared currency with the equivalent of BGN 246,649 during an inspection of a truck leaving the country.
On 12.11.2022 At Kapitan Andreevo customs point, a tractor trailer with Turkish registration attached, traveling from Germany through Bulgaria to Turkey, arrives. According to the “risk analysis” method, the truck was selected for a thorough customs check, during which wads of euros of different denominations were found between the springs of the bed mattress in the driver’s cabin. The total amount of discovered currency is 126,110 euros with the BGN equivalent of 246,649 BGN.
In the case, a fast-track proceeding was initiated by an investigative customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office Haskovo – Territorial Department – Svilengrad. The driver Y.O., 37 years old – a Turkish citizen, is accused of not having fulfilled his obligation to declare in writing to the customs authorities the currency transferred across the border, which is outside the European Union and the value of the money is in particularly large sizes. The crime is classified under Article 251, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
