Customs Officers in Ruse Seize Over 3.5 Tons of Cigarette Filter Paper

Customs officers from the Ruse Customs Directorate seized a large amount of cigarette filter paper, branded with the logo of a well-known brand. On October 24, 2024, at around 1:15 PM, at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint in Ruse, they stopped a truck driven by a Bulgarian citizen en route from Bulgaria to the Czech Republic. The truck was directed to a designated inspection area, where officers discovered that four pallets contained 3,552 kg of branded cigarette filter paper not listed in the shipment documents. The goods were confiscated.

This violation was uncovered as part of a joint operation against smuggling, involving teams from the Customs Agency, Border Police, the General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime, and the National Revenue Agency.

Since the beginning of October, Ruse customs officers have also seized a total of 1,986 rolls of cigarette filter paper, imitating the branding of two other cigarette brands. These were confiscated in four separate cases in the areas of Svishtov, Vidin, Oryahovo, and now at Danube Bridge – Ruse.
