Over 24,000 Counterfeit Goods Seized in Two Customs Inspections in Sofia

Customs officers from Sofia Customs Office, together with inspectors from the National Revenue Agency (NRA) and police officers from the General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime (GDCCOC), confiscated a total of 24,053 items, including children’s toys, balloons, and branded bags suspected of being counterfeit.

Between April 3–5, 2025, following a risk assessment, a team from the “Customs Intelligence and Investigation” department selected two cargo trucks for inspection to prevent customs violations.

First Inspection (April 3–4)

At the “Iliantsi” wholesale market, authorities inspected a truck carrying “cargo” goods declared in Greece but with deferred VAT payment. According to the documents, the shipment was sent by a Greek company to a Bulgarian recipient. The inspection revealed:

  • 22,313 items, including children’s toys and balloons suspected of being counterfeit.
  • 480 plastic bottles containing bubble solution, which were not listed in the accompanying documents.

Second Inspection (April 5)

In the “Iliantsi” industrial zone, another truck transporting goods from Greece was inspected. Authorities discovered:

  • 1,740 bags bearing logos of well-known brands, also believed to be counterfeit.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in both cases, and the investigations are ongoing.
