118 liters of alcohol were detained by customs officers at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint area near Ruse. During the inspection of a Bulgarian registered van that left Bulgaria on 6 August 2020, customs officers found a total of 118 kilograms of alcohol (vodka, whiskey, rum) with a valid Bulgarian excise label affixed to the luggage of the driver and two passengers. The passengers announced that they were going to Western Europe for the wedding and the liter bottles were needed for the celebration. The amount of private consumption goods transported by each of the three exceeds the norms (10 liters) of the transport of alcoholic beverages for personal use within the EU, so bottles were detained under the provisions of the VAT Act.
