Customs officers found more than 95,000 undeclared pounds hidden in the cavities of a truck cab.
On April 27, 2021, at around 01.30, the customs inspectors diverted for inspection a truck leaving the country in the area of the Danube Bridge 2 border checkpoint. According to the submitted documents, the driver was transporting foodstuffs from Turkey to Great Britain. He told the customs officials that there was nothing to declare. After a thorough customs inspection, the inspectors found nineteen packs of banknotes in various cavities in the cabin – pounds in denominations of 5, 10 and 20 pounds. In the enumeration, which was carried out in the presence of the driver, the customs officers found that the undeclared amount was £ 95,310. The driver explained that the currency was his and that it was personal savings. An act for establishing an administrative violation was drawn up for him. To secure future receivables under the act from the violator, she was detained with a receipt and an amount of BGN 3,000.
