Customs officers from the General Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation found 1,150 boxes (23,000 pieces) of contraband cigarettes hidden in two rear moving tires of a truck.
The truck with Turkish registration arrived at the Lesovo Customs Checkpoint on April 25, 2021 at around 10.45 pm. The driver was transporting groupage goods from Turkey to Sweden via Bulgaria. At the checkpoint he was selected by a team of a customs mobile group for a thorough inspection, including with specialized X-ray equipment. When examining the vehicle and the load, the customs officers found a suspicious tightness in two of the rear tires of the semi-trailer of the truck. After their dismantling and physical inspection, the customs officers found that 13,200 cigarettes with the brand “Winston Blue Long” and 9,800 short cigarettes with the brand “Winston Red Long” were hidden in the tires, all without Bulgarian excise labels.
Tobacco products were seized. It was established that they were owned by the driver of the car – a Turkish citizen. An act for the established administrative violation was drawn up against him. To secure future receivables under the act from the infringer, she was detained with a receipt and an amount of BGN 14,000.
