Sheets with 2,112,000 blanks of counterfeit cigarette boxes cut out were detained by customs officers in the area of the Danube Bridge Vidin – Calafat border checkpoint.
On June 11, 2022, around 11:00 pm, in the area of the Danube Bridge 2 border checkpoint, the customs inspectors stopped a refrigerated composition for a thorough inspection. According to documents, the truck transports 22,187 kg of paper products to Germany.
During the inspection, the customs officers found that behind the first two rows of pallets containing folded cartons, there were also 40 pallets with sheets of cut blanks for cigarette boxes. On 20 of the pallets the blanks have the Marlboro red logo, and on the rest – with the Chesterfield red logo. In addition to these 40 pallets, two more pallets with 144 coils of filter tape were found in the refrigerated semi-trailer – corcofan, one with the Marlboro logo and one – with the Chesterfield logo.
The pallets of cigarette blanks are foiled with white opaque foil, without any distinctive data such as barcodes, inscriptions or stickers giving information about their manufacturer. There are 20 clipping boxes on each of the blank sheets.
The number of packages per pallet is 52,800, with 1,056,000 from each brand. or a total of 40,112,000 cigarette pack blanks for the 40 pallets.
The goods were seized by the customs inspectors on the grounds of Art. 17 (1) of Regulation (EU) № 608/2013 on suspicion of infringement of intellectual property rights. The trademark holders are to be notified.
