During a customs inspection of a bus stopped near Ruse, inspectors discovered a significant amount of medical products used for cosmetic procedures.
On February 25, 2025, at around 5:00 PM, customs officers stopped a Ukrainian-registered bus traveling from Bulgaria to Ukraine near the Danube Bridge – Ruse. The vehicle was directed to a customs facility for a thorough inspection. A stationary X-ray scan revealed medical products for aesthetic procedures hidden in two boxes of unaccompanied luggage.
The bus driver stated that he had received the medical supplies from a Ukrainian citizen in Nessebar without any accompanying documents. According to him, the package was intended to be delivered to Kyiv for a fee. The seized items include 1,008 ampoules and vials in commercial packaging, along with injectors for administering the substances.
The medical products were confiscated since no documents verifying their origin or type were presented during the inspection. The case remains under investigation.
This inspection is part of the compensatory measures implemented by the Bulgarian Customs Agency following the removal of border controls within the European Union, after Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area.
