Customs officers from the General Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation found 967.67 grams of gold jewelry during a check of a car at the Lesovo Customs Checkpoint.
The car with foreign registration arrived at the Lesovo Police Department on September 21, 2020 on a route for incoming cars, driven by a Swedish citizen who was traveling with his family from Turkey to Sweden via Bulgaria. The driver and the passengers have stated at the Bulgarian customs point that they have nothing to declare. During the subsequent customs inspection, the customs officers found in two bags with personal belongings a total of 967.67 grams of yellow metal jewelry – rings, bracelets, earrings and others. The performed expertise of the products has established that they are made of 14 and 22-carat gold and have a total value of BGN 93,090. The smuggled gold jewelry was seized. Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted in the case, which is being conducted by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Yambol District Prosecutor’s Office.
