Customs and police officers seized 522 liters of alcohol without documents for paid excise duty during two inspections carried out during the day.
On November 25, 2020, officers from the Operational Control Sector – Silistra, Department of the Ministry of Regional Development – Danube, together with officers of the Border Police, carried out an inspection of a private property in a village in the municipality of Silistra. In a basement adjacent to the property, inspectors found 400 liters of colorless clear liquid with the smell of brandy. The person managing the property was required to submit documents under the Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses Act, certifying the accrual, payment or security of the excise duty, but at the time of the inspection no such documents were submitted. Upon inspection of the address, it became clear that the person had a facility for boiling ethyl alcohol, which at the time of the inspection was not working. An act for establishing an administrative violation is forthcoming.
On the same day, during a joint inspection, customs officers from the Operational Control Sector – Svishtov, the Ministry of Regional Development – Danube and police officers from the Gorna Oryahovitsa Regional Police detained 122.65 liters of yellowish liquid with the smell of ethyl alcohol. The quantity was found in a private property in a village in the municipality of Gorna Oryahovitsa. 126 glass bottles were found on the spot, in which the liquid with the smell of alcohol was stored. Pre-trial proceedings were instituted in the case under the supervision of the Gorna Oryahovitsa District Prosecutor’s Office.
