Customs officers from TD Customs Burgas seized over 18 tons of contraband plant protection products during a check of entry into the country from Turkey by a truck with Bulgarian registration.
On September 23, 2021, around 08.40, on the route “Incoming trucks” from Turkey to the Ministry of Justice Kapitan Andreevo arrived a truck with a tractor, with Bulgarian registration, driven by a Bulgarian citizen. The driver is a representative of documents in accordance with which toilet paper, fabric softeners and detergents are transferred with the sending of the goods to a Turkish company and the recipient – a Bulgarian company. The car was selected for a thorough customs inspection. During control actions, in case of interruption of the vehicle with specialized X-ray equipment, customs service devices, creating suspicious areas in the load of the vehicle. The subsequent physical inspection revealed that the so-called “stopper” had been built behind the softener bottles in cartons of exposed plant protection products.
21,381 packages in bottles and plastic bags with a total of 14,578 liters and 3,824 kg of various types and brands of plant protection products were seized.
Compared to the assessment performed by each person for resistance to smuggled drugs is BGN 321,000. An undeclared 68,500 diapers were found in the cargo of the car during the inspection.
In case a court proceeding has been initiated from subsequent customs service by TD Customs Burgas, which is checked under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Haskovo. Work in case of continuation.
Since the beginning of the year, including this case, with detained a total of 24 860.5 liters and 3912.9 kg of plant protection products. More than 10,000 liters of them were seized by the Customs Agency as part of the international operation SILVER AX VI.
