A specially trained customs dog named Jake found 82,000 pieces (4,100 boxes) of cigarettes hidden in hiding places on a car platform in the area of the Danube Bridge-Vidin border checkpoint.
On November 18, 2021, customs officers stopped a car leaving the country with a specialized trailer for transporting cars (car platform). The inspection also involved a customs dog trained to detect tobacco and tobacco products. It gave a positive sign after sniffing the front of the platform. During the subsequent physical inspection, the customs officers found that between the supporting beams of the specialized trailer, from the front to the middle, three metal boxes were installed. 4,100 boxes of a popular foreign brand of cigarettes with a Bulgarian excise label were found in them. The tobacco products were seized, and the driver was issued an act for violation of the excise legislation.
Another 20,380 pieces (1,019 boxes) of cigarettes were detained by customs officers during another inspection of a car with a platform in the area of the Danube Bridge-Vidin border checkpoint. On November 6, 2021, the customs inspectors diverted the vehicle leaving the country. In the tires of the car loaded on the platform, as well as in the spare tire of the specialized trailer, the customs officers found the tobacco products, all with Bulgarian excise labels. The cigarettes were seized, and an act for violation of the excise legislation was drawn up against the driver.
