A new attempt to transfer undeclared currency with the BGN equivalent of BGN 800,481 was prevented by the customs officers from TD Customs Burgas.
On May 3, 2022, a freight minibus with Turkish registration arrived at Kapitan Andreevo, traveling from Great Britain to Turkey via Bulgaria. Under the ‘risk analysis’ method, the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which undeclared 253 490 British pounds, 149 149 euros, 5990 Irish pounds were found in a factory cavity under the driver’s seat. The currency found has a total Bulgarian equivalent of BGN 800,481.
Rapid proceedings were instituted by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Haskovo-Territorial Department-Svilengrad.
The driver, Ya.H., a 39-year-old Turkish citizen, was charged with a crime under Article 251 of the Criminal Code, for failing to comply with the Criminal Code at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint on May 3, 2022, when leaving the Republic of Bulgaria. its obligation under the provisions of the Currency Act to declare money transferred across the border of the country, which is the external border of the European Union and the value of the crime is particularly large.
